Connoisseur's Collection: Brassie

W Park, Musselburgh (1880) $1950

Shaft clearly stamped "W. Park". Circa 1880. The golden beech head has no visible maker's name on the crown. The loft of the hooked face has been slightly increased almost into a wooden niblick. Thick horn flange under the full brass sole plate. Original thick suede grip.

McEwan & Sons, Musselburgh (1870) $2130

This lovely long nosed transitional driver was made circa 1870. The crown is stamped "McEwan" and the face is in nice condition. The shaft is stamped "Anderson & Co., Princes St, Edinburgh". It has a very thick old suede grip.

J H Hutchison, North Berwick (1882) $1900

This is a beautifully shaped driver with a dark stained head. Circa 1882. The whipping has been renewed. Clear Hutchison mark on the crown. Very old suede grip which may be the original grip.

A Patrick, Leven (1870) $2300

This driver was made around 1870. The long nose dark stained head is in excellent condition. the stamp of the crown is very faint. rams horn flange. Original suede grip.

T. Dunn, Musselburgh (1877) $2450

The dark stained head is stamped T Dunn.   The long narrow face has a black leather insert neatly fitted.  Circa 1877.   the head is made of Beech.  The whippy shaft is made of Ash.  Original suede grip.  Tom's wife was a descendent of featherie ball maker Douglas Gourlay.

R. Wilson, St. Andrews (1880) $3950

A slender black stained head with a black leather insert on the face.  Circa 1880.  The hickory shaft has a hairline crack and a number of small whippings add colour to a neat club.  the original grip has been replaced with an 1890's cork grip.  The shaft is stamped R. Wilson.

C. Playfair, Aberdeen (1880) $2300

Long narrow golden Beech head stamped C Playfair, Maker, Aberdeen.  Circa 1880. Cream rams horn flange. Original suede grip.   Additional whipping on the shaft to strengthen it.  This transitional club came from Charles Playfair who came from a golfing family of club makers.  Part of the David Stirk Collection.

From the golden Beech head to the Ash shaft, this is typical of Alex Aitken's top quality clubs.  The golden coloured crown is stamped Aitken.  Semi Long nose head, long and narrow, circa 1880's.   Original sheepskin grip.  Sandy was clubmaker to Royal Brugess, Edinburgh from 1892
